Saw the pic you posted on twitter, looks like the rash I had with the dye reaction, only mine was all over, the Benadryl worked well for me. When Tommy had the shingles the Dr said it was the same as Chicken Pox’s, 21 days from exposure til the rash appears. I’m thinking Kayla was exposed at Lily’s birthday party, there were alot of little ones there. She said she noticed the first mark on her face on Tues 2/14 just thought it was a pimple, that was 22 days after Lily’s party. Really think you should see a Dr. and have him confirm what it is. They did tell Kayla yesterday to take Benadryl and use Calamine lotion for the itching. Hope you feel better!

Someone saw a pic of some skinny legged little twerp in some magazine so someone on NFF had a little poll of our favorite pic of Taylor in a suit. I did not remember this one, and it is gorgeous.

Henry, Thats a beautiful picture!! I don’t remember seeing that pic of him with the oxygen mask on and folks blowing it up to get a better look, but do remember one that appeared on Splash of him coming out of the water in Hawaii after the whole CL thing exploded, wet suit left nothing to the imagination, if you enlarged it oh my, you knew what he had on his mind!! I had saved it when I went from xp to windows 7 but don’t know where they put it, cause I can’t find it. Not sure how to go about asking my IT guy where they would have put it, LOL!!

The pic with the oxygen mask was taken at Telluride, I’m trying to remember when that was last year. I’m wondering if that was during the time you were having a lot of problems with the leg. You must have been distracted. LOL
Henry, when they were getting us ready to convert to windows 7 he sat with me and we went through things, some stuff I got rid of and others that weren’t company related he put them in a folder under my “c” drive doucuments/settings he called it “bad files” haha! I can’t find a folder that says doucuments/settings in my “c” drive, I’m gonna have to ask Brodie maybe he can help me out. If not I’ll ask him tomorrow. Upset company didn’t renew their contract with these guys they are bringing in IBM starting Mar 1st. My favorite guys are being relocated to other companies, I’ll have to stroll over and ask him!

ss, It was on Splash News never saw it anywhere else, when they announced he was dropped from 19 records it was Jan 08 I think, the pic they used was him coming out of the water in Hawaii. You don’t notice right away, what happened at that time I didn’t know how to save pictures, i would just copy & paste it into my microsoft word. Kayla’s laptop wasn’t working and she had used mine for a map project she was doing at school and had increased the size to 500%, to get what she needed. When she finished I had gone over to Splash and saw the pic. Copied & pasted my word was still at 500% didn’t know it so when it copied over guess what was staring right back at me. I’m gonna keep looking and see if i can find it. I’m pretty sure i had sent it in an e-mail to BL way back.

Everyone had the same idea to shop at Wegmans today. It was a bad as a weekend. The store has been here over 6 yrs. and there is always new peeps coming to check it out. I’m blessed to live 5 mins. away. Hope all of you one day get a Wegmans near you, as nothing else even begins to compare.

Henry, I don’t think it was a good idea for someone to search out the old version of Teach Me To Dance and ask peeps to compare. She said no one had recorded it and I have no clue if that is what T. believes or what the story. I saw your tweet about it and had the same thought when I read the compare tweet. I didn’t even listen to it. He may not record it for all we know. He seems to still be meeting with writers and he could have dozens of songs he is considering. They could have just done that song because they were on the show together as Nashville peeps on Words and Music.

Chill, Hope you are feeling better today and the rash has calmed down. Kayla called in tears again, they didn’t get the results, but the nurse practioner that was on today reduced the poor kid to tears, like it was her fault she got chicken poxes. Telling her she has to report her to the state that she has them, then told her she was stopping by her apt to take a look at her. She said most of the pox are starting to scab over. I’m sure I’ll get another call later tonight with an update.

Rosie, that “old version” thing is irritating me. For the life of me I still don’t understand how or why it was ferreted out. Do we have to know everything? I suppose its no big deal, but I bet the writer would just as soon no one had even noticed or remembered the old one. I know if I had stumbled across it I would not have mentioned it simply because I don’t think any one trying to reintroduce a song they wrote some time ago would really want the old one to be paid any attention to.
I think its just the kind of thing that might make them decide NOT to record it and that would be a shame. And it REALLY makes it clear why Taylor trys not to let anything out. Good fans, that work hard for him but just can’t leave anything alone to let it develop in its own good time.
If I had heard the old version, it would have went in one ear and out the other. Very nasel country, no expression or feeling of any kind by someone very few ever heard of on an album no one remembers. Why the hell bring it up? Drives me crazy.
Rosie, if she said it had not been recorded, its true no one ever did record this version of it. Taylor makes it a very different song and it also makes it clear that she was hoping the old, bad version had been unnoticed and forgotten. Which it had. Now why the hell can’t some take the hint and shut up?

I agree, Henry…. what is the point of “compare and contrast” with an inferior version of a song recorded over a decade ago from a pretty much unknown country singer? I swear, some people just don’t know when to STFU. And besides, who cares if it was technically recorded before? No one ever heard of it, so as far as I’m concerned it’s a brand new song.
I know sweetsmoke, I felt a little bad hollering about it but it did bother me.

It did bother me also because it was none of our business. Victoria said no one had picked it yet and it should have been left at that. Now Taylor knows that many of his fans know it is not a brand new song. It’s kind of like the Keb Mo leak, and who knows what that may have messed up.

I don’t see any harm with comparing the songs…when 19 came out for Taylor there was reference to Tom Hambridge and Jeffrey Steeles (the songwriters) version and Waycross’s version..and since 2009 2 other artists have done 19 Bill Gentry 2010 & Billy Ray Cyrus 2011..Songwriters WANT their songs recorded…Victoria has written over 500 songs…so she forgot TMTD was recorded 20 f*ing years ago…If Taylor wants the song I am sure he will get it and make it his own…

Poor Kayla shes got the pox in her mouth and down her throat, but it all seems to be drying out now they are starting to scab pretty quickly. i had to call the new help desk today for my blank page in word that was showing like graph paper. The girl couldn’t figure it out either so sent it the next level. In the meantime Kayla called to check in told her about my word problem, her roommate Chris rebuilds computers on the side. So he walked me through all the tabs, come to find out when I was in view I clicked on gridbars, once unclicked it the grid went away. The next IT guy calls me about 4:30 to try and figure out what was wrong, told him my daughter and her friend figured out what I did, all fixed. He said good “I had no clue”, LOL

That is an great find Cochem. How much time has Taylor spent watching the best of the best, soaking up every video, every song like a sponge? I respect him and his knowledge of music more all the time.
Unlike a contestant I remember that didn’t know who Jerry Lee Lewis was, Taylor respects his art. The music, the musicians that were so great in the past.
I think thats what is missing in a lot of music now, no knowledge of old artists or that great music.
Does not surprise me Tay copied Ray Charles, given he was rather obsessed with him. Not does it surprise me that he included a line to baffle even his most devoted fans. That is Tay’s nature, he does what he wants, when he wants and how he wants for better or worse.
I’ve often thought he perhaps should have been a bit more focused and mainstreaam during his 2007 tour. That is when he was drawing the big crowds and filling venues due to his exposure and win on AI5. 90% of those people were not obsessed with everything he said and did, or familiar with which songs he performed in what concert when or where. They were there to see a show, and many may have wanted or expected him to sing similiar songs to those he did on AI. The obscure stuff he did, the nuances lost them. I recall even wondering why he turned his back to the audience so much and his interacting with the band was a bit distracting. Now ya gotta remember I loved him to death, but was not on the net doing the fan site things to compare ‘Compared To What”, and was not even familiar with it. “Normal” peeps, did not know what a tag was, so when he’d go into one, they lost the familiar rythem of the song.
I, they were used to seeing him focused and just singing a song, with the camera on him and being able to understand every word he sang. The local music critic said Taylor had charm but lacked focus and polish to hold an audience in his grip.
Well rosie, guess I was not the “normal” music fan. Many of the things you just mentioned that may have lost some people are the very reasons I have followed him all these years.
Long before his 2007 tour, I found his pre AI music, Workplay shows, work with Jon Cook and others and I knew I was hearing a bit of musical genius. I never liked the term “tag” because it suggests some kind of add on which is not what he does at all. He blends music together. He can start one song, go to another and another and back to the first, all blended perfectly. I was amazed the first time I heard that, never heard anything quite like it or at least never heard anyone do it that well.
If I want familiar rythmns I can listen to Lawrence Welk.
I knew I was hearing something unique and very, very special and whether the rest of the world can recognize it or not, I and many others it seems know what it is.
And local music critics, in fact most critics, are notoriously short sighted, banal, and unimaginative. Things Taylor never will be.
And I don’t think T was ever really obsessed with Ray, he simply recognized Rays genius. Its really to bad he never got to meet him. I’m sure that was a part of his dream.
And anyone that thinks Taylor can’t hold an audience in his grip is really very very badly mistaken. I remember a story I was told once where Taylor literally had an audience drooling by teasing them with that damn harp.
I watch his videos, I see exactly what he can do. True, much of the world has been denied his talents but thank God not all of us have been. What was it that Sahara said once, that he goes places with that voice no one else even dreams of. Something like that. She was right.
Just to add tho, some of my favorite performances of Taylors are ones where he just sings one song straight. Hes one of the best.
And, knowing what he can do, I think most of his audience would too.
But I don’t think he could ever do a whole show like that, He’d get bored.

My comment was made in response to Cochem’s observation of everything Taylor. I was trying to think outside the box, as to what may have gone wrong, besides the obvious of him not being played on radio and having a top of the chart single. He was still so popular in 2007, despite those misfortunate facts and thus he had sold out shows.
His concerts were not like his AI performances and other than Do I Make You Proud, his tunes were not heard on radio. His concerts were a take off of his pre AI days, pre TV fame days. So many of his covers were not familiar to many of his audience. I was not reading blogs and thus was not familiar with what he did during 06 AI tour, after hours or with some of what he chose to include in his concerts.
Perhaps, the point is that people in the real world will not know or care if Teach Me To Dance is recorded by T. or has been by anyone unless they hear it, like it, buy it and then research it. We fans are not in the real world.
I remember so many of his fans were familiar with his pre AI music while he was still on Idol and really wanted to hear some of that. I think most got what they wanted out of his tour shows and still do but no doubt there were a few that wanted some AI songs. I remember looking for the vids from some of the shadow shows in 06, Most were not very good at the recording back then but you could sure see the fun Taylor and the audience were having. Boy have his fans become great at recording since then. It is amazing what Taylor has caused some of his fans to learn.

Rosie, I understand where you are coming from, that folks during his first tour were looking for what he did on Idol. My nieghbor that went with me also thought the same thing. I exaplained to her he would be promoting his new CD, that what he did during Idol was just what the show expected from them. Once there and he got going she was totally captivated by his stage presence and his ability to blend/tag songs. I don’t think he worshipped Ray, think he looked to him as a a muscial genius and aligned himself with his style, which is a compliment to Ray.
Henry, I too found his pre-Idol stuff before his tour, those CD’s were amazing. He has such a way of presenting his music he just grabs your attention and holds it. His ability to blend songs is something that most don’t do with the ease he does. I dont remember seeing that video either, nice find!!

cochem, thanks for finding the “spirit in the dark…just like a movie star” reference. I’ve always gotten such a kick out of that particular “medley” that Taylor created. I like the term medley also, it really describes what he does better than tagged.
I never really had heard or watched anyone else do that before Taylor but I got hooked after watching video of his very first concert of the 2007 tour in Florida. That’s when he created a medley with the James Brown song, It’s a Man’s World. His fans called that video the “shake n’ bake” video.
To me personally it is what makes him stand out and continue to hold my interest.
Anyway, in my opinion the way Taylor conducts his concerts are just fine. If I wanted to hear a song exactly the way it is sung on the record, I can just play the record. That’s not the experience I want when I go to hear live music. I also didn’t want to hear Taylor singing the same songs he sang on AI his year….. to me that would have been boring. If he had changed his music to fit that mold that AI wanted, which I got the feel was a ballad singer, I could have just followed someone like Josh Grobin or Michael Buble Taylor makes me think….. I like that. That’s part of his draw, his intelligence.
However, I do think that Taylor has vastly improved his interaction with his audience over the years. In fact you can see a big growth in his ability to talk on-stage from the spring tour of 2007 to the summer tour that year. It was a big learning curve for him. Remember before his appearance on AI he had mostly played in small bars and clubs. Those audiences many times are more concerned with what they are drinking or who they are trying to hook up with rather than what’s going on with the band. Just listen to the set from the Open Door before AI and you can hear that crowd attitude.
The thing about Taylor is that he will never be a mainstream artist but I don’t think that worries him a bit. I get the feeling the most important thing for him is to create great music that stands the test of time. I also think he will continue to pursue acting as another way to express his creativity. But music will always be a part of what he does, he has said that more than once.
The way music discovery and distribution has changed because of the internet, you will see less and less mainstream artists in my opinion. I’ve read a lot of opinions online at various music blogs about how music is moving more and more to niche audiences. The big difference is that instead of having a few radio stations and 3 main TV stations to introduce new artists, there is the whole internet plus cable and satellite TV. There are so many artists to draw people’s attention that it’s impossible to keep up with them all no matter how talented they are.
That being said, in my opinion I don’t think Taylor doing the music his way in 2007 hurt him one bit. Most of his fans still make it to as many of his concerts as they can, but you also have to consider the financial crash of 2008. That made traveling to concerts very, very difficult for a lot of people. And I’m speaking from personal experience. My husband was out of work for 2 1/2 years and although he is working now, we still haven’t recovered enough to be able to travel to as many of Taylor’s concerts as we did in 2007. We made 8 concerts that year.
With the way technology is changing the way we all find entertainment, it’s unrealistic to expect any artist’s career to develop the way we were used to seeing it develop the past 50 years. A lot of people don’t like the way things have changed but there is no stopping technology.

I think the thing is that the mainstream entertainment media like most media is way behind the curve and still only give attention to the few the radio pays attention to and that can be annoying.
I probably won’t get this quite right but I read somewhere just the other day where someone said “most pop singers careers last about 2 years but a musicians can last a life time.”
Thanks for that info about Van, Cochem. I just have never been a fan of his voice so I’ve never paid as much attention to him as I should have. He is a musical genius.
Sounds like Taylor was trying to sing every song he knew at that Hagerstown show. He is so damn good at it.
You are right Tish, Tays stage presense at concerts has improved dramatically over the years. I always thought he had a great stage presense on AI but he knew he had a captive audience there and the camera loves him.. Different in concert and he was used to the bar crowds.

Oh man, my IPod battery died today….cause I forgot to plug it in last night. I don’t have the cord here at work, my Google Music seems to be not working here, the log on screen seems to be blocked. Rats, that’s where I have all my music uploaded. I have a Spotify account but I want to listen to my music, which is a lot of live concert music. Sigh, I ended up going out to the car and bringing in all the CD’s I had there. I can’t work without music….I’ll go bonkers!!
So now I’m listening to Taylor’s live concert from The Triple Door in Seattle in 09. Thanks to all the great fans that are good with recording!!

Tish, Very well said!! Taylor will always follow his own path, like you i don’t ever see him being main stream, and also believe his is fine with that. He is making music his way, and I think that is more important to him, that it reflects who he is as a artist.
Bummer your battery died on you. I am the same way always have music on while I’m working, just find it very soothing and for me working home alone it keeps me company.
Kayla called they got the blood tests back, they are inconclusive as to Chicken Pox, they made her go over to the health office to make sure she had more pox on her. LOL, she said she has about 15 on her face and between her stomach and back over 100, yeah she has Chicken Pox. She said 3/4 have started to scab over. The nurse said she can go back to class when all have scabbed over, to stop back at the office on Monday before going to class.

Poor Kayla!! About the only good news would be that she will probably never have to go through chicken pox again….unless it’s her own kids someday.
tish, thanks, she said she feels pretty much back to her old self. Was a the bank today got talking to the ladies, they were very friendly with Kayla when she worked at Bagelsmith, the bank was in the same strip mall for many years. The one teller said she got a real bad case of the pox in high school then at 25 got another mild case. The more people I talk to the more say they know people who have had it more than once.
The weather here has been beautiful, by afternoon its like sweater weather, sunny and warm, hope it stays this way.

I am beat! I’ve had a week in hell. My rash is still plaguing me and I’m tired, really, really tired. I’ve thrown my pillows out, just in case, and I’m sleeping on rolled up blankets. I don’t have time to shop for pillows until the weekend. And I’ve had to fill in shifts because PEOPLE ARE FREAKING LAZY!!! In my next life, I’m going down a different path. I’m either going to date the guys who have Bill Gates qualities or become a plastic surgeon and open a practice in Beverly Hills.

Chill, Thank you for making all those pics! I know your tired and are dealing with that rash. Tommy has been battling a rash since Oct, they have tested everything all negative. We changed laundry detergents, hasn’t gone away but seems better. It started around his neck then moved to his shoulders, back and sides. The Dr’s told Tommy sometimes they change one ingredient in the laundry det and even though we’ve used it for years, it may not agree with him anymore. Its been a process of elimination, just very frustrating.

Now about all these fine pics of Taylor. Thanks for posting them all. I have to laugh thinking about when Chill and I were worried he was losing his hair during his “Grease” period. Man has some head of hair! He is photogenic and handsome and yet a few fans have said they don’t think he is handsome. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a bad pic of Clooney, but I have seen a few bad ones of Taylor. But when you think of it, most all the bad ones were caught while he was singing or making funny faces. He still has that boyish look in person, which I get to check out on Mar. 17th! Being in the 4th row, I may even get to check out his Shamrock while he is singing and dancing around!

Niacin is a B vitamin, chill. If you take a high dose, which some do for some conditions, you can get flushed and feel hot for a few minutes. Not a reason to quit taking it if you need it tho.
If you get really hot or get a rash, you might have to quit taking it or take a lower dose.
Not so long ago I had a bit of a rash that I asked the doctor about when I was there. She prescribed a cream but when I went to pick it up it was $90. I decided to take care of it myself. Eff that.
Henry, I had a rash a few years back on my forehead. Had used Almay products for over 30 years, must have changed something in it. Dr prescribed a cortizone based cream for me, went to pick it up and was over $100, did the same thing treated it myself. Went and got Cortizone 10 over the counter took a little longer but it worked.
Idol is different this year Hollywood week, they were like Broadway productions, the kids must have gotten clothes allowances. There is some nice talent this year alot of soulful singers, no stand out for me yet. Some have been performing for a long time so they know how to work the stage, but nothing compared to when Taylor took to the stage during season 5. Don’t think they could ever recapture the energy he bought to that season.

Damn printer is giving me grief again. They got me a new one in May started getting messages in Aug that there was a paper jam, no paper jam. HP sent me a new one, that one was damaged, so they sent another one. Last night started getting paper jam messages again, no papaer jam. Called the help desk this morning the language barrier was horrible the guy didn’t understand a word I was saying, nor me him. Finally had to spell it all out for him. Told him 5 times I work at home the printer is here, when we hang up he “says someone will stop by your desk to look at your problem” Oy, he just didn’t get it!

Henry, Just plain frustrating. I am going down to see Lily today, told my SIL what I went through with the “new” help-desk. They let all my guys go and bought in new people. Told her this is not acceptable when they can’t even understand something as simple as a printer breakdown. She was like “Oh no”. I’ll have to wait until Monday to find out what was exactly sent out as my problem, LOL!!

Just got back from spending the afternoon with Lily! She is just getting such a little personality. As soon as she hears music she stops in her tracks and starts dancing, shaking her little butt, head bobbing back and forth then she spins, and just giggles. We went out to eat and they were playing music she just had to get out of the high chair and get dancing, everyone was clapping for her she just ate it up!! When the food came out she pointed to the high chair like get me back in there, ate chicken fingers, french fries, and some pizza!

Henry, i agree, love playing with Lily, i can leave when ever I want. But still remember the nights of walking the floors with my two, the reactions after shots, and teething not fun times. Lily is as close as I’m gonna get for a grandbaby for now, my two tell me to enjoy her!
Very strange my BIL and I were laughing yesterday, Lily never met my MIL but when you tell her “NO” she gets this defiant look on her face just like her, it was like wow how can that be, LOL!!!

I used to watch my oldest 2 grandsons on Wed. nights when they were 3 & 5. They are 15 & 17 now. They would wear me out back then and I became a grandmom in my 40′s. I engaged however in more creative play with all of my 5 grandkids than I did with my own kids. Probably because I wanted them to like me, whereas my own 3 had to like me. Pretending you are a store owner or a customer, or waitress or diner, over and over again requires patience!
My best friend who is my age is still waiting for her 2 girls to have children. But she had her 1st child 13 yrs. after I had mine.
I love checking out the Tay pics each time I come here. The one of him looking angelic should be used on a Billboard to advertise Angel Soft Toilet Tissue!

Looks like we are getting another kitty. Brodie’s buddy Nikki and Jordan who are getting married in June, found a kitty outside of her store. She bought it home with her, but she has 2 cats and Jordan has 2 cats which will be joining them in June, their just afraid it will be too many cats in their place, so they asked Brodie if we would take him. Brodie went over yesterday to see the little guy he said he looks to be about 6 mos – 1yr old, very friendly. So Tommy suggested a “play date” with our 2 cats which means bring the cat here its got a home, LOL!!!

Rosie, LOL, my Mom used to play resturant with Brodie we had an easel in the den and she would write the daily specials on it. After she passed I took all the pages she had written on and saved them. Brodie came across them a couple of years ago, had a few mounted and framed has them hanging in his room.

Chill, Yeah hes a soft touch! We both said last year after Lucky died that was it, no more new animals. Its just so hard when you lose them. When Brodie first asked about the cat Tommy was like let me think about it, then today he said about the play date.
Brodie was working on our nieghbors car all day, so he couldn’t go get the kitty, maybe tomorrow. Our neighbor owns a music store so Brodie bartered for the work, it was his son’s car so Brodie said I won’t charge any labor, I want some bridge work done on two of my guitars so his Dad said you got it, so he is thrilled the guitars are gonna get done.

I agree that Taylor has made great strides as a musician communicating with his audience. I also agree with some of Rosie’s comments too. The first time I saw Taylor in concert he did seem to turn his back to the audience quite a bit and seemed distant. Plus the fact that I swear he jumped up and down non stop! LOL. It was like he was a head banger or something. LOL He did not do it the next time I saw him. LOL. It’s ok that he changes up the songs but I do admit to getting peeved sometimes when I am waiting on a favorite melody line and he decides to flatten it out. LOL

Haha, Rocky and Bucky! Rocky looks more like Bucky than Bucky looks like Bucky in their duet. Spooky. Most of the story telling country songs all sound about the same to me. I enjoy most all of the country songs that have become huge hits over the years. It is the rest of the rest that I’m not a big fan of, especialy the ones about people down on their luck. Elvira is a cool song good for dancing to at weddings! lol
Oh God, Elvira cracks me up. That is real old style country. You remember Kenny Rogers and Lucille. One time someone asked my DH how come he worked such long hours and he told him because I have 4 hungry kids and a crop in the field.
But the old blues had some of the best “down on your luck” songs. They always crack me up they can be so pitiful. I don’t know if that is the effect they were supposed to have but we would die laughing at some of them.
You know I think Vans voice is starting to grow on me. I like this much better than Adele.

I liked Kenny, John Denver, Glen Campbell, Oak Ridge Boys and Statler Brothers. Hmmm, all males and old guys. Back then I used to listen to radio while cleaning, cooking and raising a family. Those guys all had crossover hits. Don’t think I’ve ever listened to a country radio station in my life for more than 10 mins.
Rosie, I always liked those guys too, they were country but not country I was used to hearing. I started listening to a few country stations that started playing T’s music, found that I really enjoyed alot of the music, once in awhile i put a country station on while I’m working for an hour or so.
Didn’t realize Idol was on tonight, completely spaced out that they do 3 days when top 24 starts. Interested to see which guy they bring back, so it will be 13 guys and 12 girls.

Ok, Willie Nelson is my fav country singer but I do remember DH listening to Roy Clark, but more for his guitar playing than his singing.
My favorite Willie Nelson song is Blues Eyes Crying In The Rain, although he didn’t write that one.

I couldn’t have watched Idol tonight if I wanted to, my cable was having issues with that station, but I read and it sounded like the judges were being as sickening as last year. I really just cannot handle the judges at all any more.
But I checked out a few on youtube. I have to admit I do like this guy, hes fun to watch.
Taylor was great doing his own PR on Idol with his personality, voice, song selections, moves, quirks and SP thing. A simple idol hashtag tweet brought out some people who bothered to respond to him. The man drives me nuts sometimes for not doing more PR via twitter.
Some of the fans I follow, tweeted they are happy he is sticking to the music and not going to be on DWTS’s. Golly gee, a few hundred thousand bucks and exposure to millions of viewers on national TV, showing off his new slimer more handsome self, and same old charisma would hurt his music creds!! And, just maybe, he’d turn out to be one hell of a good and sexy dancer.
Guess those peeps who say nay to DWTS’s, when T. would love it and give his right arm for the exposure, think stuff like jam cruises are the way to go to let the masses know he is still around. Guess they wonder why Gladys Knight is selling out. You guys know me and I couldn’t even tweet a response to the die hards in his pocket who tweeted their yays. What do some of his fans not get about him being off the radar? What do they not get about being a serious musician with no fame or fortune or exposure or hits or good gigs?
Guess they do not get that Kat will sell more songs from Smash or that Clay will be better off for being seen by millions on Celeb Apprentice. They may not even understand why T. did celeb ghost story or Don’t Forget The Lyrics or did Grease. Having some lesson known singers in the main stream of pop culture, like him, or know he can sing and play the harp ain’t gonna have peeps exposed to or buy his next CD, or get him good gigs.
Boy early Willie was really a clean cut guy.
He and Waylon really changed over the years. Early Waylon Jennings, he has short hair, clean shaved, in a suit. Hard to believe.

And things like jam cruise are good for a lot of reasons. I do understand what you are saying and that to sell really , really well you have to get main stream exposure. I really do get it and anything he gets to do like that is fine by me. DWTS, Appentice, alligator hunting, I don’t care. If it will help sell a CD well more power to him. Doesn’t change his music in any way. The music purists or rather music snobs, its all about the music, the art and the suffering crowd. make me tired. I prefer the real world.
But the music business is changing, its becoming more playing to a niche audience and you can do well that way.
I’m not a big fan of the “celebrity for celebritys sake”. Those people make me sick and really don’t seem to be all that happy, but I do get what you are saying.
For me personally, I would rather Taylor have the respect of good musicians than the admiration of thousands upon thousands. But I also understand what it takes to sell thousands in todays world.
I just have faith in him to find his own way, make a good living and be happy living in this world.
I’m too practical to be a music purist. Money talks and that is why I bet there are thousands who wish they could appear on DWTS’s even 1 week to collect that 100,000 and know millions saw them try dancing the irish jig or whatever.
I probably should just post on here asking where in the heck is the 500 X’s blow up lightened Pic of T. ascending from the Pacific Ocean in May 2007! But, it is interesting how intelligent fans have such strong and different opinions. That no no to DWTS has always amazed me.
I think some of it is fear rosie, fear of not doing well, of people laughing. Those same people, had they had the chance, would have advised T not to go on Idol. And of course they would have advised againist Grease. And still would although I think its clear why he did it. People who can’t watch their kids do anything because of fear of failure, never understanding that failing is worth the chance of success. Wrap them in bubble wrap and keep them in their closet.
You know, one of the things I remember most about Taylor on Idol was when Randy told him one night that he was fearless up there. One of the few times Randy said something he really meant instead of just mouthing words like he does now.
“You were fearless up there dude, FEARLESS”
If Taylor can be fearless, so can I. There is no reward without risk.
This is where sports come in handy, best place to learn that.

Henry, Reed Grimm was a stand out from his audition really like him, last night it was Reed, Adam Brock, Phil Phillips and Heejun that really caught my attention. The judges were all sappy they gave standing ovations for 3 guys didn’t get two of them, but the third one Jermaine the guy they bought back, he is a barritone, something very soothing about his voice. I think its gonna be a boys year again, they are strong, but haven’t heard the top 12 girls yet, they go on tonight.

Ji those 4 guys who caught your attention were all heavily featured during auditions and Hollywood week. That wouldn’t matter so much if they were still voting the old way of single or double eliminations, instead of this massive exit after only hearing them all 1 time. I decided to not vote last night, because I was disgusted about just 6 guys going thru of the 13. This method will hurt peeps like Hallie Day, unless she can blow it out of the box tonight. I bet had they done it this way season 5, Elliot may have been gone after the 1st night.
Rosie, you are so right, the way they are doing things is not fair to any of the kids, its not a normal process of elimination. I know they were heavily covered but liked them right from their original auditions. You can always tell which folks they are promoting by how much camera time they get. I think Idol wants more control over who wins, doing the top 10 like this gives them the control over who they want in that top 10. I agree they are not giving these kids a chance with some only getting one performance before they are eliminated, sad.

I think so many going after only getting to sing one song is totally ridiculous. Controlling who is in the top 10 is what they are after for sure and getting more songs to sell from the top 10 I suppose.

Some of these kids are really good and quite young 15 & 16 yrs old but the first time out on the big stage must be terrifiying to them, think some need more than one shot out there, too bad they won’t get it.
Chill, I know, was surprised when I read about Davey Jones. A guy I grew up with is a sax player and his did an oldies show a couple of years ago with Davy Jones, he was part of the horn section that played for him, he said he was a very nice guy and enjoyed the show.

I think its a real shame how they are doing things on AI this year. They have not given the kids anytime at all to get more comfortable with simpler stuff first. Throw them right out there on the big stage with all the trappings. Its nuts. All the hometown folks are talking about “Pleasant Valley Sunday” and how Carol King wrote it about the street I grew up on, and they recorded it. Carol was a hometown girl too, she was and still is good friends with my good friends older sister.

Saw lots of nice tributes to Davy yesterday and today… Carole Kind, David Cassidy (they were supposed to perform together at the end of the month in FL), Micky Dolenz, Peter Tork, Mike Nesmith… etc. Such a tragedy going at such a relatively young age. The scary part is that he ‘seemed’ pretty healthy.

ss, I know when they go like that without warning it is so sad. If he had health issues he was dealing with but he seemed to always look in good health, but guess you just don’t know, maybe he wasn’t one to go to Dr’s, I was one of them until 1/10 when everything crashed down on me, had a real rude awakening. Again you could be under Dr’s care and have something happen, my FIL had gone for a physical complete work up went in for the results they told him he was in great health, while paying his bill he had a stroke right in the office, go figure.

An autopsy on Jones said he died of ventricular fibrillation resulting from severe coronary atherosclerosis. Totally preventable with visits and treatments from a doctor. Hmm, makes ya wonder if he ever checked his cholesterol and BP. Shame.

ss, Scary that could have been where I was headed, both BP and cholesterol are under control now. BP was very high, cholesterol was within acceptable level but the bad cholesterol was high. Last blood work done everything came back a ok.

Sweetsmoke, reading about Davy Jones is making me rethink my anti-doctor mentality. I should have a check-up. My last blood draw was, um, probably 10 years ago.
Chill, Was trying to send a subtle hint to you, get it all checked out, its scary starting out, you think your feeling good but once they get you where you should be, you will see the difference, i did. Took a couple of months to find the right match for me for the BP, but its been holding steady for almost two years now. Go for a check up, they say the cholesterol was causing me more problems, Dr said the blockage in my legs was all due to the cholesterol, would have never guessed that one. Just telling you cause I care.

Chill – Yea, I would advise you get a checkup yearly… if you have a condition they can help keep it under control before it’s too late. It’s not like NOT going will make it go away. Ignoring symptoms can be deadly. Me? I hate going… really hate it, but the thing is they want to keep u healthy, so I put up with my anxiety about it.
Shame that Davy could have been here today if he had just had regular checkups.
cholesterol meds can cause as many problems or worse then they cure. If you really need to bring it down there are better ways most of the time.
But if you need them , you need them. I probably do, I expect to fall over at any time.
Henry, I agree the cholesterol meds can mess you up. The first one they put me on did a number on me. All I wanted to do was sleep and felt really weird. I fought for over a year not trying another med, with diet I was able to bring it down a few points but not enough. Before I had the first surgery the Dr said he wanted to try me back on a med told him I wasn’t interested, he basically pleaded with me to try, he said the one he was putting me on was the mildest cholesterol med available zycor. He said he would stay with me through my bodies adjustment to it, and he kept his promise, called me at least twice a week. About a month into the med I noticed the pressure had gone completely in my left leg, the leg i didn’t have operated on yet. When I went for my check up in Oct they did a doppler of my legs, the stent was in and working great and my left leg had more flow to it. He said the cholesterol meds made the difference. He still wants me to have the stent surgery on my left leg to open the artery more, but he said its not a crisis at this point.
Chill, It was so hard for me to accept that my body wasn’t doing what it was supposed to do, and that i was a big part of the problem. I was always the one that didn’t get sick, always felt good, little did i know things were breaking down around me. I’ll be honest with you the first 8-10 months on the meds I felt ok but not great. After my surgeries about Oct it was like a weight lifted off of me, my energy was back, i could go up and down steps without having to stop or sit down when I got to the top. Tommy says he has noticed a big difference in my energy level, i have alot more than he does, LOL!!
If anything go for a physical let them check you out and do bloodwork to see where things are. The Dr said he has thought about taking me off the blood pressure meds cause I’m so stable now, but worries if it goes back up, I’ll go through a re-adjustment again with the meds, so I stay on them just a 1/2 a pill a day keeps me where I should be

Hope everyone that was effected by the storms last night got through them ok. Tried to call my brother last night, Domi had said the storm was headed for N Carolina, but couldn’t get through, he called early this morning to let me know all was well with him and his family. He said they got high winds hail, heavy rains was pretty sure the tornado did not pass where he was. The damage around he thinks was just the high winds.

Tish, I know DH & I were talking about that last night, areas that never were in the tornado zones are now, whats happening? When my brother went to school in Kansas he got caught in a few tornados but he was in an area that experienced them, so he wasn’t totally shocked.
My niece messaged me on FB today, she is moving into her own place, they started the move yesterday, but had to stop due to the incoming storm, she was hoping the get Dad moving again today!

Talking about cars Tommy and Brodie are on their way down to Kayla’s, she has Brodie’s car and it won’t start. The way the parking is down there they couldn’t get another car in to try and jump her, its either the battery, altenator, or the starter. She had left her civic here the last time she was home, Brodie wanted to finish up some work on, it they were going to make the switch back at Spring Break. Brodie bought tools and meters down we are hoping it just needs a battery, put in new one in and he’ll drive it back up. But like Brodie said usually things don’t work out the easy way for him. He was just talking the other week about finally retiring his 94 corolla and getting a new car.

LOL, Just heard from Tommy, car started right up. Brodie thinks when she had the Chicken Pox didn’t start the car for over a week, they had alot of rain, condensation, hes just checking everything over then they are heading back up. That’s what even some of the famous musicians say about record labels JI. I was listening to a Van Morrison interview from a few years back and he and the interviewer were talking about a certain record company. Van said,”you never got paid for your records did you?”…. the guy said no and Van said “neither did I.” It’s been going on forever!
I’m so glad Taylor and his team got him away from the money grubbers and he can control his own music. It may be a lot more work doing everything a record company did for artists in the past but the payoff is well worth it.

The IRS is going after Ruben Studdard again for back taxes.He also got ripped off by his manager in 2005. It must be really hard to have all this fame rushing at you and still try to understand the business side enough to not get ripped off. Seems many put their trust in the wrong places. If one is not able to understand the business side I guess the only choice would be to have outside auditors look things over every year or two.
Some have criticised Taylor’s decisions to use so many personal friends to help him run his career BUT, maybe he had the right idea all along. Not that friends could not rip you off but he does seem to have a number good long term friends.
I think you’re right Denise, Taylor was lucky to have long time friends that have the skill sets he needed to create his own label. Ruben didn’t. I hope Ruben can get things straitened out, he seems to be a good guy.
Denise, I have been reading about Ruben’s troubles with the IRS, so sad he didn’t have someone he could trust to guide him. Taylor on the other hand had business savy of his own to begin with and surrounded himself with people he trusted and helped guide him in the right direction. its not fun dealing with the IRS I’ve had a few things that I have had to prove them wrong about it wasn’t easy but I got through it.

I don’t see anything wrong with following Jen, I started following all of them when they met up with Taylor the first time. I thought they were an interesting group with their connections to John Wayne, Loretta Lynn, etc. They are not bad musically either and getting better. Their husbands and boyfriends have turned out to be an interesting group too. And they are celebs, they want followers, the more the better. He tweeted about Ruben’s new song, so hopefully he is doing ok, just worry cause I know what Brodie goes through and he gets them spaced once a week. Looks like Brodie will be having the sinus surgery again in April. He went to a new Dr and he said the left septum is fine the right side is completely collapsed the tubes and all. They will have to rebuild the whole right side, but he is pretty certain that is the cause of the debilitating headaches he gets. He feels they are cause by the pressure of the right side and the surgery should clear it up. Hoping it works this time and it will behind him, no more headaches.

I follow all the Angels and I also follow Sahara who does some interesting and fun tweets. It is rude to butt in on a tweet conversation say between Jen, her family and friends. Many of the omg facts are also rude and crude such as the one posted awhile ago.

Ruben seems to be a nice person. I watched some clips of a movie he has a small part in and I think he’s talented. He played a preacher, but I don’t think the movie ever got released to big movie theaters, it was an indie thing. I did listen to the samples of his new album at ITunes. It’s ok, just not my style of music.

I love it!! AI is never going to give T the time of day IMO, he might as well use them for what he can.
I read last week, someone on VFTW noticed Taylor was not in the montage at the beginning of AI and said it looked like they had erased him from the history of the show.
Thats why I love seeing him poking them, reminding them hes alive and doing well. Use them for every bit of good he can get out of them. When he tweets on idol night he always picks up a few followers and the more names he mentions the better.
I doubt anyone will take him up on a harp challenge or anything else for that matter because they KNOW hes 40 times as good.
I checked out one video from the show this morning, I saw where a bunch were liking Joshua so I listened to his. Didn’t care for that one. He seems talented, good performer, good sense of music, don’t know if hes a musician but his voice just got to me. He sounds like he swallowed Ts harp and it was stuck in his throat. Kayla is coming in tonight for spring break, poor kid started with a sore throat yesterday went to the Health office today, she has strep throat now. They put her on meds, they said she is underweight. With the Chicken Pox now this she lost 5lbs and weighs 88lbs shes 5’1″. She said she thinks the weight loss is all the walking she is doing now, she walks to school when the weather is nice. She hasn’t really changed her eating habits, the only thing different is the walking. I’ll have her go to our Dr while shes home for him to take a look at her, never ends.
Hope Taylor tweets during results tonight, have a feeling it will be Elise from NJ or Shannon from Fla going home tonight, their performances were the weakest last night.

As for the contestants this year, yeah some can sing but no one grabs my attention or touches me like Taylor did his year. Sure Jessica can sing but she’s boring, so is that blonde girl that can sing….boring. The guys that move more can’t really sing that good. I thought P.Phillips sounded best in the group song but the night before I didn’t like his song. He practically screamed the last half of the song. That’s exactly what I couldn’t stand about Daughtry, the screaming. Screaming is not singing.
I don’t think AI will ever find another voice like Taylor’s again. He’s one of a kind.
tish, My sentiments exactly, they have some good voices, but nothing jumps out at me, thought Jessica did good, but no stage presence at all. Phillip has been one of my favorite since his audition, didn’t like what he did the night before, but the group song was good. Read that he is now in the hospital, these poor kids are run ragged on the show. This is the first season so many of them have gotten sick and have to be hospitalized. My first gut feeling was they would keep Elise, they came down pretty hard on her for her performance, they were very light with Jeremy, so I thought for a minute it may be him.
Taylor changed Idol forever, no one takes to the stage and holds your attention like he did, his song choices were perfect week in and week out, there was never any doubt that Taylor would entertain each week. They can never capture what Taylor bought to that show again, he truley is one of a kind!

Engineered some tracks for Arthur Adams last week and I am beginning preproduction for a new Taylor Hicks record as well as a surprise record to be named soon. Whew! And still so much going on I didn’t mention. Big Things in 12!

I agree it is just plain rude, he takes the time to say something nice to them, its six stinking letters THANKS thats all they would have to do to acknowledge his tweet, but they ignore. Shaking my head……..
Get this one, the school Dr called yesterday, after having the chicken pox Kayla had to have another blood test to make sure her body has built up an immunity to them. Came back that her body has not built up enough of an immunity which means she could get them again. The Dr said he doesn’t even think getting the shot would help, some peoples bodies just never build up the immunity and leaves them open to get it again. I called our Dr., the nurse said yes this is true some people bodies never build up enough immuntiy to it. So we are going to have her go in to see our Dr. next week while she is home and see what he has to say and what can or can’t be done. Never, never ends. On a brighter note, she is feeling better from strep throat, well enough that she is going to a St Patty’s day parade with Steve and his friends.

Kayla looked much better today, Thurs & Fri she just slept on the couch downstairs, kept telling her it would take 24-48hrs for the meds to kick in for relief from the pain in her throat. She said about midnight last night the pain and soreness was gone, so shes on her way!
